Design of a family
Design brief
Using parametric software allows to create many different design alternatives. This allows for exploration of ways of fabricating, generating and modeling alternatives and variants of a design. The goal of this exercise is to develop skills in high speed producing and decision making in design.
This means that the design and analysis part of this exercise is quite ‘light’. The “why?” question is less important than producing. The design brief is very simple: to create an series objects, intervention in or around BK-CITY. This can be furniture, a roof, a folly or anything small. It is not only the end product that is important, but also the process. To make explicit the multitude of design possibilities, we ask you to create different alternatives every week.
Planning & Deliverables
The course will go for ten weeks. (until week 10).
- week 1 - introduction
- week 2 - present chosen design project and research direction
- week 3-7 - each week you will present 5 variants of the chosen alternative for that week.
- week 8 - final presentation
- week 9 - reflection
- week 10 - written report
Each week we ask you to at least create one A4 for each designed variant and one A4 describing the process and chosen variant. The presentation method is free, but the A4 on its own should be enough to present the design. We will not have oral presentations: just questions afterwards.
