I have installed Maya on my machine and placed my license in another location than C:\flexlm. Now whenever I launch Maya I receive an error no license found. Does my flexlm directory have to be C:\flexlm?

Solution

You can have your flexlm directory on any drive (Local or Mapped network drive) as long as you set an environment variable to state where the license file is located.

Follow the steps below for the operating system which you are currently using:

On Windows 2000 and Windows XP:

• Open the Control Panel. This may be done by clicking Start and then click Control Panel
• Double-click the System icon which will create a System Properties pop-up box.
• Select the Advanced tab and click the Environment Variables button.
• Click on New under System variables and enter the following:
  Variable Name= MAYA_ALT_EN
  Variable Value= (EXACT path to license file) ex. Z:\Flexlm\aw_Server1.dat
• Click the OK, OK, OK and your new variable is now set.

Note: User variables will affect the current user's system configuration, whereas system variables affect the entire system configuration. If you do not wish to affect other user configurations, then set MAYA_ALT_EN for user instead of system variable.
